The Simulated Classroom

Introduction

SUO Simulates Classrooms in Online Environments

The online course model used to develop courses hosted by Southern University Online (SUO) has synchronous and asynchronous components. SUO administrators attempt to create an online learning community that simulates the traditional classroom and its interactions of instructors with students, students with their peers, as well as instructors and students with course content. In addition to teaching courses hosted in the SUO Blackboard course management system located at SUOnline, instructors also use other SUO services provided by Horizon Wimba, Tegrity, and PalTalk to engage students in audio/video supported virtual classrooms.
