The Web for Web-Based Courses |
The process for designing and delivering web-based courses involves you as the content expert/instructor and the instructional design specialist. You will design the content of the course and identify what type(s) of multimedia would be most appropriate. The instructional design specialist assists you with the preparation of the multimedia and infuses the content with it; preparation of the course for electronic delivery; and in placing the content in the course management system. The process is illustrated in the following flowchart.

As mentioned above, the content of an online course is the syllabus, lessons, activities, lessons, and assessments. The content is the "meat" of the course as opposed to its format or appearance and includes all of the words, images, and links which a user can read and interact with. A course management system is a tool that allows instructors and universities to develop and support online education. Often Internet-based, a content management system is software that allows instructors to manage materials distribution, assignments, communications and other aspects of instruction for their courses. The content is placed within a course management system so that it can be delivered electronically via the internet. The course management system used to host courses in Southern University Online is Blackboard.
